Paul Webster

Spectrum Management Officer with Industry Canada (IC)

Paul Webster joined the St. John's office of Industry Canada's Spectrum division as of January 4, 2005. He originally comes from Moncton but has been resident in St. John's, NL since 1982.

After completing his diploma in Electronics Technology (Communications) at the New Brunswick Community College in Moncton, he joined a small Atlantic service organization, working first out of Moncton and subsequently St. John's, before it was bought out by an international company. Paul continued to work with the new company until industry downsizing eliminated his position in September 1993.

He taught at the Personal and Professional Development division of Memorial University of Newfoundland on a contractual basis, and then joined the College of the North Atlantic in St. John's the following year, as an instructor in the School of IT. Since then he has taught in both the School of IT and the Electrical/Electronic Engineering Technology programs.

Paul is an avid amateur radio hobbyist and is an involved member of the Society of Newfoundland Radio Amateurs. He is the past president of that organization. He participates in many aspects of the hobby including providing communications for public service events, teaching a basic qualification course for SONRA, emergency communications, and helping other amateurs with installations, to mention just a few.

Paul reads a wide variety of books including science fiction, fantasy, techno-thrillers, and just plain fiction. Some of the authors he has read include Arthur C. Clarke, Leon Uris, Anne McAffrey, Dale Brown, Tom Clancy, Colleen McCullough, and Frank Herbert.

He has two daughters who are currently attending Memorial University of Newfoundland (English major) and the College of the North Atlantic (Computer Support Specialist).
