Dave Taschuk

Meet Dave Taschuk, Spectrum Management Officer, Edmonton
By Erin Nuytten

All Dave Taschuk has ever known is managing the Spectrum. He has spent his career managing the Spectrum in Edmonton - changing from the Department of Communications to Industry Canada - but never abandoning his post. He graduated from the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT) in 1975 with an Electronic Engineering Technology Certificate, joined the government, and never looked back.

Dave really enjoys investigating interference cases. “You never know what you are looking for until you find it. It requires an open mind and often a lot of patience. I once asked a policeman how they managed to find the ever elusive criminals. His response has guided me for years: ‘The person with the most patience always gets results.’”

Dave has been sharing his knowledge of Spectrum Management with colleagues as a trainer for a number of years. Recently, he compiled a manual and delivered a course, Technical Assistant Pre-Processing, to Technical Assistants in our Region. In compiling the manual, Dave faced challenges in finding documentation for some policies and procedures because they “go way back.”

In his spare time, Dave likes to be with his family. His children are active in figure skating, soccer and curling - which keeps him and his wife busy! In the summer, Dave enjoys golfing, curling in the winter, and volunteering all year round.
