Here is a picture of Glen Ritchie and Art Solomon in the Royal Canadian Navy in 1966 when they took their Radioman Special Training Course. Glen Ritchie is second from left in the back row.  Art Solomon is first from left in the middle row. As Radiomen Special (a.k.a. Comm Research), most of Glen and Art's work involved the monitoring of Russian radio traffic and intelligence gathering at stations in Alert, Inuvik, Bermuda and other places around the world. They were experts in copying Russian morse code.

I was also a Radioman in the Royal Canadian Navy but not a Radioman Special like Glen and Art. I was a Radioman without the special designation, also known as a Radio Sparker. My main job was Naval Radio Operations onboard ships and submarines and at shore Naval Radio Stations, handling ship-to-shore, shore-to-ship, ship-to-ship and ship-to-aircraft radio traffic... Obituary  -  Avis de décès

Glen Ritchie

2005

It is with sadness and regret that I inform you of the recent passing of our colleague, Glen Clifford Ritchie.  After a long and distinguished career, Glen retired from the public service on December 27, 2003.    Many of you will know Glen when he served as the Manager of the Acton Regional Spectrum Services Centre from 1987 to 2003.  Previously, he served with the Canadian Armed Forces for twenty-four years.

After a short illness, Glen passed to his rest on Monday, June 6, 2005.   For those that loved him as a husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle and friend, Glen, through his struggle, demonstrated the best of the human spirit.   On behalf of the Senior Management Team in Ontario, we would like to express our sincerest condolences to Mrs. Mary Ritchie and all family members.
