He served as a Radio Operator in the Arctic at Port Harrison, Resolute Bay and Mould Bay.

I came across your website and found my Grandpa was listed! There was so many memories I have of him telling us all about his time in Resolute Bay. And the polar bears.  He recently passed away he was just shy of his 97th birthday! Thank you for having this! We recently found his photo album.

Here are some pictures of my grandfather's time as a radio operator in the arctic!! He was a avid photographer and took MANY photos! The only thing I wish is there was more context written for each picture. The last several years of my grandfather's life he battled with Alzheimer's. But one thing he NEVER forgot was the Morse code. Occasionally you would hear him verbally doing Morse code.

Basil Meredyth Parsons

November 25, 1926 - October 2, 2023

 

It is with profound sadness that the family announces the passing of Basil Meredyth Parsons on Monday October 2nd, 2023, in his 97th year. Basil was predeceased by his beloved wife of 58 years, Vera, in 2013.

He will be deeply missed by his children Susan (Shawn), Douglas (Debbie), and Donald. He is also lovingly remembered by his grandchildren Rebecca (Matt), Shannon (Tyler), Tyler (Ashley), Jordan (Lina), Andrew (Meghan), Kelsey (Chris), Robert and Cody. Basil was also blessed with seven greatgrandchildren, Anna, William, Elliot, Spencer, Hayden, Ethan and Ian.

Basil lived a long, rewarding, and good life full of love and adventure. He was born and raised in Estevan, Saskatchewan. He spent two years working in the Canadian Arctic before settling in the Toronto area with his bride, a Toronto girl, Vera. There they raised their three children. Basil was a family man and a successful businessman who had many varied interests and talents including travel, scuba diving and music.

Visitation will be held at the McKersie-Early Funeral Home (114 Main St. E., Milton) on Sunday, October 22 beginning at 12:00pm, followed by a service celebrating Basil’s life at 1:00pm.

There will be a private family interment service at Omagh Presbyterian Church Cemetery afterwards.

If so desired, donations to The Alzheimer Society of Canada or The Heart and Stroke Foundation would be greatly appreciated by the family.
