My name is Basil (Bas) Carroll, I was introduced to this site by Tony Lyver your of your existing members. I find the site very interesting and informative, I would like to apply for membership status.

After  graduating from radio school in St. John's NL in 1961 with a 2nd class certificate of proficiency in radio, I joined the Department of Transport as an RO-1. After courses in meteorology, aeronautical communications and electronics at ASTS in Ottawa, I was posted to Knob Lake Aeradio in northern Quebec. Subsequent postings were at Nottingham Island, NWT Marine Radio RO/OIC, Montreal Marine/Aeradio, Fort Chimo Aeradio, Cape Hopes Advance Marine Radio OIC and again Montreal Marine/Aeradio.

In 1973 I transferred to Halifax Marine Radio in Ketch Harbour, but at the same time I also worked as a relief RO at Halifax Aeradio at Halifax Intl airport. I started out as a working RO, but subsequently moved on to a shift supervisor position in 1974 and then on to the position of the Area Operations Manager in 1978.

I transferred to the regional office in 1988 where I worked as a Standards Officer until my retirement in 1995.

This is Radio Operator Basil Carroll operating the 8-mHz radiotelegraph position at VCS with Technician Bill Turner sitting in the medium frequency radiotelephone position probably 1975. Bas Carroll came to VCS in 1973 and was a Shift Supervisor from 1975 until promoted Area Operations Manager in 1978. He retired as the Regional Standards Officer. He holds amateur radio call sign VE1VAY. Cape Hopes Advance VAY was his first radio station.

This was a ceremony in the early 1970’s to present the late Stan Greer and Reg Fagan with plaques for twenty-five years of service as radio operator’s. In the photograph from the left to right are Stan Cairns the Senior Operations Supervisor, the late Gus Crewe the Technical Station Manager, Reg Fagan, the late Stan Greer, Bob Adams from the Regional Office, Dick Olhausen Technician and Supervisor Bas Carroll.
